Ken Womack, professor of English and Integrative Arts at Penn State Altoona, was the guest speaker at the March 6 Penn State Forum Speaker Series event held at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. Womack, the 2013-14 Penn State Laureate, is an expert of popular culture, most notably of The Beatles.
The discovery of breeding Red-throated Caracaras in northeastern Honduras may give conservationists just enough time to explore the reasons for the raptor's demise in the region and help rescue it, according to Mark Bonta, assistant professor of earth science, Penn State Altoona, who led the discovery team. "While the species is apparently doing fine in South America, it has all but disappeared from Mexico and Central America," says Bonta. "This is the first-ever nest recorded from the region."
Over the past year, the look and feel of Penn State Live has undergone some subtle changes. Now, the site has experienced its first major facelift since it was launched in April 2003. The first major difference in the site is a large, horizontal image at the top of the page. The fair allows students to present the culmination of their work from a traditional research/creative activities experience, an internship, or a course-based undergraduate research experience.
